Q.How do I list the number of files in the current directory?

A. At your Linux prompt type

ls    –la   |grep   “˄ – ”   |awk    ‘END { print “Number of files: ” NP }’

Q. How do I list the number of subdirectories in the current directory?

A. At your Linux prompt ype

ls    -la    |grep   “˄d”  |awk    ‘END { print “Number of  directories: ” NP }’

Q. How do I get back to the last directory I was in?

A. Just type this at your Linux prompt.
