Dear Viewers, Have you been wanting to sign up for aGoogle+ account, but you’re apprehensive about having to use your real name on your profile? Well now you don’t have to.
Google has finally lifted the “you must use your real name” restriction, something that potential users have been complaining about since the day the service was launched.
I’m thinking they probably felt they had to make this change if they were to ever have a chance at competing effectively with Facebook for users. They have a looooong way to go to catch up, and I believe this is a good move on their part.
Of course this change will result in a lot more fake profiles, but Google is all about using algorithms to prevent mischief so I’m sure they’ll be able to handle it with few problems. It should definitely end up being a net plus for them.
Will Google+ ever catch up with Facebook in terms of registered users? It’s hard to say since Facebook has such a huge head start on them. But who knows? Look what they’ve done in the area of search in just a few years! Time will tell as they say…
