Problem: You have forgotten password of root use in linux machine how you solve the problem?

Log on as a single user mode then execute following command.

#passwd

[root@ns1 root]# passwd

Changing password for user root.

New password:

Retype new password:

Passwd: all authentication tokens updated successfully.

[root@ns1 root]#

Problem: How will you change the default init option by editing inittab file?

# vi   /etc/inittab

# Default runlevel. The runlevels used by RHS are:

# 0 – halt (DO NOT set initdefault to this)

# 1 – Single user mode

# 2- Multiuser, without NFS (The same as 3, if you do not have networking)

# 3 – Full multiuser mode

# 4 – Unused

# 5 – X11

# 6 – reboot (Do not set initdefault to this)
