Use your old smart phone as a wireless security camera

Dear viewers,Like most households these days, yours probably has one or more old smart phones that have been retired to a junk drawer after upgrading, but a simple downloaded app can turn them all into wireless security cameras!

Just download and install the app, mount the phone where it can “see” the area you wish to monitor, then view everything that happens there via the browser on any computer or active smart phone.

Android users can download IP Webcam from the Google Play Store for free. IP Webcam uses your old phone’s camera to capture and send streaming video directly to any web browser in the world.

If you have an old iPhone laying around you can purchase IP Camera from iTunes for just $1.99. While IP camera doesn’t stream live video like IP Webcam, it does take a snapshot every 12 to 15 seconds and display it in your web browser.

Both apps are easy to install, set up and use. Simply download, install and run the app, then place the phone with the camera facing the area you wish to monitor. You’ll need to enter your Wi-Fi connection’s password and jot down the IP address the app gives you for monitoring the video/photos. Then visit that IP address with the browser on any connected computer or smart phone to view the action (if there is any).

These home-brew security cameras are great for use as baby monitors or for checking to see who is knocking at your door. Just be sure you have a decent Wi-Fi signal and an outlet available for plugging in a charger wherever you wish to install your smart phone “security camera”.
